Research and Development District San Diego

Safety meets innovation in San Diego

San Diego's Research and Development District (RaDD), developed by IQHQ, is reshaping urban safety by deploying SHUFFLE smart poles to create safer, smarter public spaces. These smart poles are equipped with an emergency intercom system featuring a blue light ring, which flashes prominently when activated, ensuring swift visibility for those in need and responders.

A cutting-edge development

The Research and Development District is a premier life sciences hub in downtown San Diego. Spanning eight acres, it features labs, offices, retail, dining, and a 17-story tower. Designed for innovation and sustainability, it includes green spaces, renewable energy, public plazas, and waterfront views.

Modular smart solutions in partnership with Landscape Forms

Schréder and Landscape Forms partnered to deploy six SHUFFLE smart poles at the Research and Development District (RaDD) in San Diego. By combining Schréder's smart technology with Landscape Forms' expertise in design and planning, the partnership delivered cutting-edge outdoor solutions tailored to the needs of this forward-thinking urban environment.

SHUFFLE smart poles are modular and multifunctional, designed to integrate seamlessly into urban environments. These poles can include lighting, security cameras, and communication tools, enhancing safety and usability. Their applications extend beyond emergency scenarios, as they also support functions like Wi-Fi connectivity, environmental sensors, and interactive features. This versatility makes them a popular choice for universities, urban centers, and public spaces globally.

This versatility allows SHUFFLE poles to serve as a comprehensive safety and technology solution for universities, parks, downtown areas, and more. Their sleek, unobtrusive design integrates seamlessly into urban landscapes, minimizing infrastructure clutter while maximizing functionality.

A commitment to public well being

San Diego’s commitment to urban innovation and safety has made it a prime location for implementing the SHUFFLE system. By combining modern design with advanced functionality, the project aligns with broader urban planning goals, such as:

  • Increasing public safety: Visible emergency systems provide reassurance and reduce response times.
  • Reducing infrastructure clutter: The SHUFFLE’s all-in-one design consolidates various systems, minimizing the need for separate installations of lights, cameras, and emergency buttons.
  • Promoting sustainability: LED lighting and modular upgrades ensure energy efficiency and adaptability to future technologies.

The RaDD San Diego initiative is a significant step toward a future where urban environments are not only smarter but safer for everyone.
